There have been terrible acts of antisemitism in the UK recently. Physical violence, and people riding on cars shouting vile things towards Jews on megaphones. This was all over the internet.
As for Jeremy Corbyn, it was hardly just expressing concern for Palestinians, where did you hear that? I truly wonder where you get your news. Here is a letter written by Jews with their concerns about the Labour party’s antisemitism: https://www.thejlc.org/letter_to_jeremy_corbyn
Here are a few statements: “When Jews complain about an obviously antisemitic mural in Tower Hamlets, Corbyn of course supports the artist. Hizbollah commits terrorist atrocities against Jews, but Corbyn calls them his friends and attends pro-Hizbollah rallies in London. Exactly the same goes for Hamas. Raed Salah says Jews kill Christian children to drink their blood. Corbyn opposes his extradition and invites him for tea at the House of Commons. These are not the only cases. He is repeatedly found alongside people with blatantly antisemitic views, but claims never to hear or read them.
Again and again, Jeremy Corbyn has sided with antisemites rather than Jews. At best, this derives from the far left’s obsessive hatred of Zionism, Zionists and Israel. At worst, it suggests a conspiratorial worldview in which mainstream Jewish communities are believed to be a hostile entity, a class enemy. When Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party, Jews expressed sincere and profound fears as to how such politics would impact upon their wellbeing. Our concerns were never taken seriously. Three years on, the Party and British Jews are reaping the consequences.”
Even this complaint that he was “smeared” for just expressing concern for innocent Palestinians, is either hugely uninformed or somehow biased, in its complete ignorance of the dangerous reality Jews are facing.
I’m glad you enjoy Jewish culture- Yentl is one of my favorites as well. I always liked her striving for truth.
Perhaps you sense that there is wisdom there that is universal, and can greatly improve the lives of all, above religion or nationality.
Indeed Abraham was our common father, and it is his method that the internality of Torah holds. Judaism and Islam come from the same source, and they are very similar if you strip away the more modern interpretations. There is a worship of one God, no statues, and an understanding that we must learn to love others with an open heart.
I hope that we can move closer to this internal truth, and by that reach true peace for all.
